Accessibility
We want everyone who forages to be able to use Pickable. Here's what the app supports today, what we're still working on, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
Supported
- Larger text. Pickable follows your phone's text size: Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size on iPhone (up to 160 %), and Font size on Android (up to 150 %). Pages reflow so nothing is cut off.
- Dark mode. Day and Dark screen modes, following your phone's setting or chosen in the app's Settings. Field mode (during a trip) stays light for reading in sunlight.
- Never colour alone. Every call (Go, Maybe, Wait, Scout first, Not here, Closed) is shown as a word and an icon as well as a colour. Map pins also differ by shape: solid, ringed or hollow, with a legend in the list and the Map sheet.
- Large tap targets. Map pins have 48-point tap areas, and the main buttons are full-width.
- No gestures required. Every page has a Back button as well as the swipe, and every sheet has a Cancel button as well as drag-to-dismiss. Ending a trip is a press and hold so it can't happen by accident in a pocket.
- Reduce Motion. With Reduce Motion (iPhone) or Remove animations (Android) on, the pulsing location dot, sheet slides and the hold-to-end fill don't animate.
Still in progress
- Screen readers (VoiceOver and TalkBack). Buttons, the list, area pages and announcements are labelled, but the map itself is an image a screen reader can't read, and we haven't finished testing every task with VoiceOver and TalkBack. The answer for the spot under the crosshair is shown as text in the sheet.
- Map animations. Moving the map to an area still animates when Reduce Motion is on.
- Voice Control and a full colour-contrast check.
Pickable has no video or audio content, so captions and audio descriptions don't apply.
Tell us about a barrier
If something in Pickable is hard or impossible for you to use, email hello@10tenstudio.com. Tell us your phone, which setting you use (for example VoiceOver or a large text size) and what you were trying to do. We usually reply within two business days, and accessibility fixes go to the front of the queue.
